Gather round! Hear here!
This holiday season, let’s go in the opposite extreme of “divide and conquer”. Let’s come together! From every mouse, mote, scintilla to every whale, juniper tree, grammie-grampie, snot-nosed kiddo, and so on, we are all fellow earthlings.
We thinking, talking, making earthlings (aka we humans) happen to be the ones with the inclination to meme atop our genes, and so we have a special responsibility as storytellers, and now gardeners, of ecosystems.
Our responsibility? To find in our inclination the means to bring forward the possibility of a joyous feast to future generations… heaps of “turkeys, geese, game, poultry, brawn, great joints of meat, suckling-pigs, long wreaths of sausages, mince pies, plum-puddings, barrels of oysters, red-hot chestnuts, cherry-cheeked apples, juicy oranges, luscious pears, immense twelfth-cakes, and seething bowls of punch, that made the chamber dim with their delicious steam.” (Dickens, A Christmas Carol)
May your festive table be firmly grounded in a respect for the deep provenance of all that is great and good, and a recognition that we must tend to the garden together.
Harkening back to an old post from last year, this podcast episode is a special winter solstice message for you all!
